Why It Matters
One of very few hotels in the Bavarian Alps holding both 2 Michelin Keys (2025) and a Michelin Green Star for sustainable gastronomy. The on-site Bioland-certified organic farm supplies the kitchen directly — venison from the hotel's own red deer herd, eggs from on-site chickens, bread from the village bakery Pretzner. Relais & Châteaux member since 2019.
Gut Steinbach started as a passion project. In 2011, Count Klaus Graf von Moltke bought a tired old hotel on a sunny plateau in the Chiemgau Alps — 51 hectares of Bavaria at its most alpine — and rebuilt it into something genuinely special. Today it's a Relais & Châteaux property with 2 Michelin Keys, an on-site organic farm where deer, yaks, goats and chickens roam freely, and a restaurant earning a Michelin Green Star. The main building is wrapped in native wood and floor-to-ceiling glass panels, with a rustic hunting aesthetic inside. Around the natural pond, seven private chalets built by local craftsmen offer a completely different, more secluded kind of stay.

Seven standalone chalets arranged around a natural swimming pond. Each runs 150–185 sqm on roughly 1,000 sqm of private land. Three bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. Living area with tiled stove, full kitchen with wine fridge, and a private infrared sauna with relaxation room and experience shower. Built by local Chiemgau craftsmen in traditional alpine style. Feels like your own private house — and it essentially is.

Cross-country ski trails pass directly alongside the property. Snowshoeing also possible directly from the hotel.
The Winkelmoosalm ski area is 5 km from the hotel — a short drive or shuttle ride. Cross-country ski trails also run directly past the property.
