Greenity Iwata
Biophilic minimalism meets Japanese wellness retreat. High ceilings, natural wood, organic shapes. Calm without being cold — the kind of place that feels designed for genuine rest, not just photo opportunities.
Day-use onsen is open to non-guests (¥1,800 adults) — worth combining with a lunch set at Rikka or Tokiwa for ¥5,000 total (saves ¥300 vs. booking separately).
Why It Matters
The moor hot springs are the real standout — an alkaline peat-based water (humic acid, fulvic acid) described as naturally moisturizing, pumped from 1,500m below the hotel and running as two distinct rotenburo (outdoor bath) experiences called Daichi and Sora. It replaced the old Iwata Grand Hotel entirely, so despite the same hilltop location, everything inside is brand new as of late 2024. Collected by Tablet Hotels.
GREENITY IWATA opened on November 29, 2024 on a hilltop above Iwata city, built on the site of the old Iwata Grand Hotel after a complete rebuild. The whole place is organized around nature and recovery — a 5,000 sqm garden with around 700 plant and herb varieties, a rare moor hot spring (mooru-sen) pulled from 1,500 metres underground, and all 55 rooms starting at a generous 38 sqm. French cuisine at Rikka, Japanese fare at Tokiwa, a Finnish sauna, and locally sourced Enshu region arts and ceramics woven throughout the interior round it out.
