Patio Hotel
Literary boutique. Every room tells a different chapter of Bruce Chatwin's travel writing — Australia, West Africa, the Middle East, Patagonia. The aesthetic is refined but personal, not corporate. Old brick vaulted ceilings in common areas, art from the connected Graziella jewellery group on the walls. Feels like a collector's private house more than a hotel.
Book early before Arezzo's antiques fair (first Saturday and Sunday of each month) — the hotel fills quickly and rates go up
Why It Matters
The only hotel in Arezzo occupying an authentic 15th-century historic building in the medieval centre. The entire concept — ten individually themed rooms, all referencing a single travel writer — is unusually coherent for a small property. Owned and operated by Graziella Holding, an Arezzo-based luxury jewellery and fashion group that treats the hotel as its flagship hospitality statement.
Graziella Patio Hotel is a 4-star boutique hotel inside one of Arezzo's oldest buildings — a palazzo with foundations and cellars dating to the 15th century. All 10 rooms are named after places and works of the British writer Bruce Chatwin, and furnished with pieces and themes drawn from his travels. It sits a few minutes' walk from Piazza Grande, ground zero for Italy's oldest monthly antiques fair, and steps from the Basilica of San Francesco where Piero della Francesca's frescoes live. The building is elegant; the rooms range from snug doubles to proper loft suites with private jacuzzis or steam baths.

How you'll actually spend your days.
The hotel arranges transfers to and from airports, train stations, and tourist destinations with multilingual drivers. Also covers access to ZTL restricted town zones.
Italy's oldest antiques fair takes over Piazza Grande and surrounding medieval streets on the first Saturday and Sunday of every month. Up to 30,000 visitors show up — staying at the Patio puts you literally steps away and lets you get in before the crowds.
The hotel rents hybrid bikes, city bikes, and mountain bikes. Tell them your height and they sort the rest. Arezzo's medieval centre is compact and walkable, but a bike opens up the surrounding Tuscan countryside.
A re-enactment medieval jousting tournament held in Piazza Grande in June and September each year. One of Tuscany's most authentic medieval festivals. The hotel is two minutes' walk from the piazza.
The concierge can arrange a private 3-hour guided tour of Arezzo including timed-entry booking for the Legend of the True Cross fresco cycle by Piero della Francesca in the Basilica of San Francesco. Entry requires advance reservation and the concierge handles ticketing.
Optional excursion the concierge can arrange: a private guided tour of Cortona (about 30 km south) with entry to the Etruscan Academy Museum (MAEC). Add-on to the Autumn package or bookable separately.
A branded experience with the nearby organic vineyard Podere di Pomaio. Runs for a couple of hours and covers organic wine production and tasting with a Tuscan snack. Brochure available at the hotel. Requires transport to the vineyard.
