Why It Matters
One of the oldest continuously operating grand hotels on the Italian Riviera, dating to 1903. Guglielmo Marconi transmitted the world's first microwave radio signals from the hotel's panoramic terrace in 1933. An Art Nouveau palace on the Ligurian waterfront, the Grand Hotel Miramare has been going strong since 1903 — and the Fustinoni family has run it since 1945. Known to regulars as 'The Mira', it sits directly on the Gulf of Tigullio, with century-old gardens, a seawater pool, a private beach (the largest in Santa Margherita), and four dining outlets all on site. A 1970s-style seawater pool open 09:00–19:00 from mid-April to mid-October. Sitting at the base of the cliffs, surrounded by oleanders, pines, and the Berceau's shady pergola. Loungers, umbrellas, and towels provided.
A path through the century-old private gardens — past red camellia bushes, palms, maritime pines, olives, and cedars of Lebanon — up to the highest point of the estate, with views over the Gulf of Tigullio and the Ligurian Sea.
