Gold Diggers
Rock-and-roll creative campus. Think mid-century velvet and brass, Andrew Savage paintings on the walls, vintage vinyl on the turntable, and a bar downstairs running until 2am every night. Deliberately gritty, deliberately cool.
Check in through the bar (7pm-2am) or text 323-716-1990 for daytime arrival — there's no traditional front desk
Why It Matters
Originally built in 1924 as an inn above a tavern on what was then Route 66. The building later became a dive bar, then a bikini bar, and is rumored to have been a rehearsal space for The Doors and Jimi Hendrix. The soundstage in the back was used by Ed Wood for films including Plan 9 From Outer Space. The neon sign still hangs above the door. Owner Dave Neupert opened the hotel in 2018 after a renovation led by Wick Architecture & Design. Tablet Hotels named it one of the 25 Coolest Hotels in the World. It won three 2019 AHEAD Awards and the INDIE Congress Award for Best Hotel Bar.
Gold-Diggers is a former bikini bar on Santa Monica Boulevard that got a second life as one of LA's most singular boutique hotels. Ten rooms sit above a nightly live music bar, and behind it all is a full professional recording complex. The slogan — Drink. Sleep. Record. — is not a gimmick. It's the actual offer.

How you'll actually spend your days.
A full recording complex presented by Kingsize Soundlabs, with 7 professionally designed and acoustically engineered studios. Equipped with vintage Neve 8014 consoles, ATC monitors, API, SSL, Universal Audio, Pultec Tube-Tech, Neumann mics, and more. Studios run 24/7. Hotel + Studio packages are available. There is also a multi-use soundstage — the restored Ed Wood soundstage — for live recordings, screenings, showcases, and events.
Every room (except Room 6) has a turntable and a curated selection of vintage vinyl. Room 6 gets a cassette player instead. The Aquarium Drunkard x Gold-Diggers 12" vinyl is yours to take home at the end of your stay.
Nightly shows curated by Justin Gage of music blog Aquarium Drunkard. Ranges from up-and-coming indie acts to surprise sets from established names (Stevie Wonder has reportedly played here). All-vinyl DJ sets on non-show nights. 175-person capacity keeps it genuinely intimate.
The bar/venue space is available for private events and showcases. Tech specs are available for download on the website for DJs and performers.
The entire hotel — all 10 rooms plus the guest lounge — can be booked out as a group. Popular for bands, music industry events, or creative retreats.
