Why It Matters
This is the oldest industrial building in Rogaland county, founded in 1783 as Sandnes Teglverk (the city's first brickworks). The original brick walls are fully intact and form the backbone of the hotel. Member of De Historiske Hotels & Restaurants of Norway since 2011, listed on both Tablet Hotels and the Michelin Guide.
Built in 1783 as Norway's first brick factory, GamlaVærket's original walls now house 55 individually decorated rooms in the center of Sandnes. The building sits one minute from the train station on the Langgata pedestrian street — making Stavanger an easy 20-minute ride away. Downstairs, the restaurant serves honest Norwegian fare surrounded by centuries-old exposed brickwork, and a wine bar and street-front café round out the ground floor.
