Why It Matters

Listed by both Tablet Hotels and the MICHELIN Guide. The Furuyu onsen water itself is the draw — a 100% natural, kakenagashi (free-flowing) source that yields 43+ tons daily at 38°C, a rarity that serious onsen travelers seek out for therapeutic long-soaks. The property offers 15 bath varieties plus private baths and a natural sand bath, all under one roof. SEBRI, the in-house Italian restaurant, was named a Tabelog Best Restaurant in 2012.

ONCRI sits in the Furuyu Onsen valley at the foot of Mt. Sefuri, about 30 minutes by car from Saga Station. The whole point of coming here is the water. Furuyu's springs are nicknamed 'BijinYu' (Beauty Water) and run unusually cool at 38°C — mild enough to soak for hours without overheating. The ryokan wraps this tradition in a 'Japanese Contemporary' aesthetic: tatami rooms with floor-to-ceiling mountain views, locally sourced Italian and kaiseki dining, and a bath hall with 15 distinct soaking options. It's not the flashiest property in Kyushu, but the combination of relaxed onsen culture, solid food, and genuine mountain quiet makes it one of the more complete ryokan experiences in Saga Prefecture.
