Kawaguchiko
Modern ryokan meets design hotel. Quiet, eco-conscious, and nature-forward. Guests wear spa PJs to dinner and nobody blinks. The public spaces — lobby lounge, firepit terrace, zelkova-timber bar counter — are all beautifully composed without feeling fussy.
Request a Hollywood twin configuration (280cm × 200cm) at reservation time if you want one large bed instead of two doubles
Why It Matters
Every one of its 32 suites faces Mt. Fuji with private open-air hot spring baths lined in volcanic stone from the mountain itself. The Spa by Sisley — a high-end global brand — is a genuine rarity in this region. And the kaiseki dinners are cooked over wood fire and lava rock, with menus that rotate daily by season. The Michelin Guide picked it up as a standout property for exactly these reasons.
FUFU Kawaguchiko is a 32-suite modern ryokan where every single room faces Mt. Fuji directly. Opened in October 2018, it sits in the forested hillside above Lake Kawaguchi — about 20 minutes by taxi from Kawaguchiko Station. The design is sharp and considered: natural timbers, private open-air hot spring baths lined with volcanic stone from the mountain itself, and bioethanol fireplaces that fill the room with a low amber glow. The whole place operates on a forest-resort logic — slow, intentional, nature-forward — that makes switching off remarkably easy.

Available mid-April to mid-November (excluding the peak climbing season surcharge window in July–September).
