Foyers Lodge
Contemporary-classic Victorian Highland lodge. Warm and personal, not corporate. Think Art Deco drawing room, open fire at check-in, a dram of local whisky, and a grand bay window framing Loch Ness at breakfast.
Book dinner when you book your room — capacity is small and non-residents also compete for tables.
Why It Matters
Awarded a Michelin One Key distinction in the inaugural 2024 UK & Ireland hotel guide, retained in 2025. Also ranked No. 13 in the UK's Top 50 Boutique Hotels 2024/25, recommended in the Good Hotel Guide, and winner of 'Small Luxury Destination of the Year 2025' and Interior Design Award at the Scottish National Hotels of the Year.
Foyers Lodge is a fully refurbished 1863 Victorian lodge perched on the south side of Loch Ness — the quieter, less touristy side. Adults only, just six en-suite bedrooms plus one ground-floor executive suite, all managed by the resident owners. The interiors are the real draw: rich heritage colours, antiques, taxidermy, oil paintings, roll-top baths, and period detailing done with genuine conviction rather than pastiche. No pool, no spa, no conference facilities — this is a proper small retreat with very good food and dramatic loch views from almost every room.

How you'll actually spend your days.
The quiet country roads and trails along the south shore of Loch Ness make for excellent cycling. The lodge can provide information on local routes.
The licensed drawing room features a vintage piano guests are welcome to play, alongside books, games, magazines, and a coffee machine in the upstairs snug. A quiet space for reading, relaxing, or enjoying a Highland dram.
The region around Foyers offers access to golf courses, hill walking, and climbing. The lodge provides local information and maps in the upstairs snug.
The kitchen can prepare packed lunches for guests heading out on day trips — a practical option given the remote location and limited dining options nearby.
The lodge holds 8 salmon fishing licences on Loch Ness, as well as fishing rights on Loch Bran and Loch Mhor. Fishing arrangements can be discussed with the owners.
A 10-minute forest walk from the vicinity of the lodge leads through pine woodland to the Falls of Foyers — a dramatic waterfall set in a gorge that inspired Robert Burns. The path continues down to the shores of Loch Ness. One of the most popular local activities for guests.
