Milano
Renaissance convent meets contemporary Milanese design. Terracotta and gray-blue tones, textured velvet, brass finishes, and custom rosewood carpentry throughout. Feels more like a very well-appointed private palazzo than a conventional hotel.

Why It Matters
The only major luxury hotel in Milan built inside an actual 15th-century convent. Rooms with preserved ceiling frescoes painted by Giocondo Albertolli. First Four Seasons in continental Europe. Cloister garden that was once a herb garden for the convent's nuns. Dual-designer interiors — Urquiola in the common areas, Rochon in the rooms.
Four Seasons Hotel Milano opened in 1993 inside a genuine 15th-century convent — the brand's first property in continental Europe. The building still has its ogival vaults, Renaissance frescoes and ancient fireplaces; now they share space with furniture by Poliform and Cassina. In 2025, acclaimed designer Pierre-Yves Rochon completed a full renovation of all 118 rooms and suites, following Patricia Urquiola's 2021 overhaul of the common areas and spa. The result is Milan's most historically significant luxury hotel, sitting squarely in the Quadrilatero della Moda, steps from Via Monte Napoleone.
