Bay Galapagos Hotel
Eco expedition hotel — understated luxury, heavy on wildlife access and sustainability credentials, light on flashy resort trappings. The vibe is active naturalist, not beach lounger.
Book an Evolution Suite if budget allows — the floor-to-ceiling soaking tub facing volcanic landscape is the most distinctive room in the hotel
Why It Matters
The only beachfront hotel in Puerto Ayora, a National Geographic Unique Lodges of the World member, Michelin Guide selected (2025), and three-time World's Leading Green Hotel winner (2015–2017). It runs on solar power, has its own desalination system, and is carbon neutral. The private Sea Lion Yacht for daily island excursions sets it apart from every other land-based option in the archipelago.
Finch Bay sits on Playa de los Alemanes — a small, sandy cove fringed by mangroves — and is the only beachfront hotel in Puerto Ayora. You reach it by a five-minute water taxi across the bay. Most guests to the Galapagos sleep on boats; this is the land-based alternative, and a genuinely good one. Architecture mimics the surrounding volcanic rock, wooden walkways weave through the gardens, and wildlife drops in uninvited: sea iguanas, yellow warblers, finches. The 33 rooms are clean and well-designed without being fussy, and the pool faces directly onto the beach.
