Faro Capo Spartivento
Monochrome minimalist meets eclectic world traveler — raw maritime materials, white walls, and parquet floors layered with antique curiosities from Turkey, India, and Mongolia. Extremely private, deliberately slow-paced, no phone-and-laptop energy.

Why It Matters
The first lighthouse in Italy converted to a hospitality use — awarded by the Italian Navy as a model of military architecture recovery. The light still rotates at the top. Completely self-sufficient: photovoltaic panels generate electricity, a desalination plant purifies seawater, and a phytoremediation plant recycles wastewater for the garden.
Italy's first lighthouse-hotel, Faro Capo-Spartivento sits on the very tip of the Capo Spartivento promontory on Sardinia's wild southern coast — built in 1854 by the Italian Navy, still operational as a working lighthouse, and converted into a 5-star hotel after a painstaking 8-year renovation that began in 2006. With just 10–11 suites split between the lighthouse tower and the adjacent Residenza Semaforisti (the old keepers' quarters), it's genuinely intimate — the kind of place where you might be sharing dinner under the crystal gazebos with only a handful of other guests. The style is all monochrome minimalism crossed with eccentric world-traveler collecting: stone, wrought iron, and parquet floors alongside Murano crystal chandeliers, Louis XIV-style white leather chairs, and an Indian trunk used as a bookcase.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Guided excursions by 4x4 vehicle into the wild surrounding area of southern Sardinia.
Complimentary daytime shuttle service to the beach — useful given the rough access road.
Trails run directly from the lighthouse along the coastal promontory. Easy walking access to Cala Cipolla beach (around 10 minutes on foot) and Su Giudeu beach (around 20–25 minutes). The sparse Mediterranean scrub vegetation means you can self-navigate with the lighthouse always visible behind you.
One of the most technically challenging courses in the Mediterranean, just a few minutes from the lighthouse. The hotel can arrange access for guests.
Horse riding available as an activity, referenced in guest reviews.
Climb the handmade cast-iron spiral staircase all the way to the lantern room — a few steps away from the rotating optics, with the full Sardinian coast spread out in every direction. The 250 sqm second-floor terrace below it also offers 360° panoramic views day and night.
Sailboat excursions available to explore the crystal-clear waters and coastline around the promontory.
An underground cinema on-site, referenced by Tablet Hotels in their property description.
The old underground dungeon of the lighthouse has been converted into a wine cellar. Wine tastings can be arranged, accessed via the cast-iron spiral staircase.
