Golden Prague
Brutalist grandeur meets contemporary Czech artistry. Think dark wood, leather headboards, knotted glass pendant lamps, and original 1970s design elements preserved alongside new commissions from living Czech artists. Serious and sophisticated, but not stiff.
Book Zlatá Praha well in advance — it fills up fast and is the best rooftop view in the city
Why It Matters
Prague's only Fairmont, holder of 2 Michelin Keys (2025), and the city's only year-round indoor/outdoor pool. The building itself is a protected brutalist landmark, and the renovation preserved original Czech art and design elements from the 1970s rather than stripping them out. Also holds Czech Republic's Best Hotel Spa 2025 (World Spa Awards) and 3 Gault&Millau toques for Zlatá Praha restaurant.
When the InterContinental Prague opened on the Vltava riverbank in 1974, it was one of the first American investments behind the Iron Curtain. After a 5-year, multi-million dollar renovation, this nine-story brutalist landmark on tony Pařížská Street reopened in April 2025 as the Fairmont Golden Prague — Eastern Europe's only Fairmont. The bones are still pure 1970s concrete swagger, but inside you'll find salvaged original elements (wooden sculptures by Josef Klimeš, golden globe chandeliers by Hugo Demartini) alongside contemporary Czech art, Lasvit glass installations, and dark wood floors. It's a hotel that actually has something to say.
