Rapa Nui
Remote, adventure-forward, architecturally arresting. Think expedition basecamp done at a high level — minimalist rooms, all-local guides, Chilean wine poured freely. Quiet by design.
Room 8 is a Raa Suite with extra space — families book the numbered rooms close to the pool and main lodge for convenience
Why It Matters
The only luxury all-inclusive lodge on Easter Island, 2,300 miles from the South American mainland. Named World's Leading Expedition Company 2025 by the World Travel Awards. Won Condé Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards 2025 for Best Resorts in South America. Certified B-Corporation. Designed by award-winning architect José Cruz Ovalle. Every exploration, meal, beverage, national park fee, and airport transfer is included in the rate.
Explora Rapa Nui sits on 9.6 hectares of volcanic grassland in the Te Miro Oone sector, 8 km outside Hanga Roa — which means no archaeological remains underfoot and sweeping, unobstructed Pacific views in every direction. The architecture, by Chilean award-winner José Cruz Ovalle, echoes the island's moai in its interconnected volumes: dark timber, natural materials, shadow and light playing off a volcanic landscape. This is Explora's most dramatic property, which is saying something. Thirty rooms, no TVs, no in-room Wi-Fi. You're here to explore, not scroll.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Mountain biking across the island's volcanic terrain to ancient settlements, crater rims, and scenic coastal routes. Multiple difficulty levels available. Bikes and equipment provided by the lodge.
Horseback exploration of the island. Also popular with children. A classic Easter Island experience — horses roam freely across the island's grasslands.
Guided experiences focused on Rapa Nui history, language, and living traditions. Local guides share stories of the island's Polynesian heritage. Tickets to the Kari Kari traditional dance show in Hanga Roa can also be arranged.
Hikes to the Rano Raraku moai quarry, Ahu Tongariki (15 moai platform), Ahu Akivi (the seven explorer moai), and coastal platforms including Te Miro O'one. Led by certified bilingual local guides who grew up on the island. Never in groups larger than 8. Duration varies from 2-hour easy walks to full-day treks.
Coastal kayak adventures departing from Hanga Roa. An accessible option for guests of varying fitness levels.
Two-tank private dive for guests with existing dive certification (beginner or advanced). Access to some of the deepest, clearest water in the Pacific. Requires a diving certificate — not offered as a learn-to-dive option.
Boat trips to the famous Motus islets — tiny islands offshore from Hanga Roa, site of the legendary Birdman competition. Crystal-clear deep Pacific waters. The boat departs from Hanga Roa's cove and also visits sea caves with views of the Rano Kau crater.
Paddleboarding along Easter Island's coast. A mellower water option that still delivers Pacific views without requiring certification.
Advanced half-day hike starting at Ahu Tahira, ascending to the rim of Rano Kau crater (the island's largest), then to the ancient ceremonial village of Orongo where the Birdman competition took place. 9.2 km, 675m elevation gain. Difficulty: Advanced.
