Dwarika’s Sanctuary
Serene, deeply intentional Himalayan wellness retreat. Architecture inspired by native Newar building techniques using local wood, earth, and stone. Quiet and contemplative — no DJ by the pool, no nightlife. The vibe is monastic but never ascetic: suites are spacious and luxurious, food comes from the property's own farms, and staff include resident Ayurvedic doctors and yoga masters.
Book the Curated Himalayan Stay (3-night all-inclusive signature package) rather than a room-only rate — it includes the Ayurvedic consultation, daily yoga, spa massage, and all meals, and is the way the property is designed to be experienced.
Why It Matters
One of Nepal's most serious wellness destinations — not a spa hotel, but a genuine retreat with resident Ayurvedic physicians, structured multi-day healing programs, farm-to-table dining from six organic farms, a meditation maze, a Himalayan salt house, and a tasting-menu restaurant using Japanese technique with Himalayan ingredients. Sister property of the iconic Dwarika's Hotel in Kathmandu, with the same deep commitment to Nepali cultural heritage and sustainability.
Dwarika's Sanctuary is a 25-acre all-suite wellness resort set on forested terraced slopes above Dhulikhel, about an hour east of Kathmandu. Opened in 2013 by the Shrestha family, it runs entirely on the Pancha Kosha philosophy — a yogic framework that treats the self in five layers — woven into everything from meals to spa treatments to the architecture. Forty suites built from stone, timber, and handwoven linens look out over the Himalayan horizon, while the grounds contain an infinity pool, an indoor pool, a meditation maze lined with 84 Shiva Lingams, a Himalayan salt house, and chakra sound chambers. The place draws on Vedic philosophy, Buddhist medicine, and 3,000 years of Himalayan healing tradition; it is not a conventional resort with wellness as an add-on. It is a wellness immersion that also happens to have very comfortable rooms.

On Property
How you'll actually spend your days.
A sacred Hindu blessing ceremony conducted by a resident priest at the Shiva Lingam maze — prayers, flowers, and flame marking the ritual.
Guided painting session with the resident artist. A practice in seeing and slowing down as much as in technique.
Hands-on pottery with a master using clay from nearby fields. Less about making perfect vessels, more about the meditative act of creation.
The property has a dedicated bird watching hut set within the 25-acre forested grounds.
Voice and vibration practice in the Meditation Cave, lined with rudraksha beads and cool stone. Chanting resonates through the rock.
Seven dedicated Chakra Chambers, each tuned to a single chakra frequency via colour and sound. Teacher-guided sessions.
Farm and kitchen class guided by the chef. Focus on the logic of a kitchen rooted in place — Nepali and Ayurvedic cooking techniques with seasonal ingredients.
Morning yoga sessions in the open pavilion or among the pines, guided by a resident yogi. Balances movement with mindfulness. Available for all levels.
Forested trails across the 25-acre property and surrounding hillside, including walks toward Dhulikhel viewpoints.
Seasonal planting on the terraced farm with the garden team. Grounding, tactile, and unhurried.
Group or individual meditation sessions led by the resident meditation guru. Held at various locations across the property.
Learn to craft Ayurvedic balms and mixtures using herbs from the garden — ginger, turmeric, basil, neem. Ancient knowledge made practical.
A Vedic ceremony conducted by a priest, working with the nine planetary forces (Navagraha). Precise invocation, offerings, and ancient mantra to restore inner alignment.
Guided pranayama in the salt house or outdoors. Techniques circulate energy, steady the mind, and return clarity.
A barefoot meditative walk at dawn through the maze encircled by 84 Shiva Lingams, led by a meditation guru. Each step a single point of attention.
A guided hike to one of Nepal's most sacred Buddhist monasteries. Witness morning chanting, share a monastic lunch, and sit with the Khenpo for a dharma talk. One of the most memorable activities at the property.
Gentle hike to the organic farm, joining the farmers for a meal prepared with produce gathered hours before — rice, lentils, vegetables. A rare farm-to-table experience that is genuinely farm-first.
Guided sunset experience at the Zero Zone ridge deck — the Sanctuary's highest point. Snacks, mountain-herb teas, and a request to simply witness.
