Why It Matters
Dunton is a Relais & Châteaux member and Michelin 2-Key property. It's the only hotel in the world occupying a fully restored 19th-century mining ghost town with functioning geothermal hot springs. Colorado's only geyser bubbles up on the property every 45 minutes. The entire town can be bought out exclusively for weddings, retreats, and family gatherings.
Dunton Hot Springs is an authentic 1800s gold-and-silver mining ghost town in the remote San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado, painstakingly restored cabin by cabin into one of the most singular all-inclusive retreats in the American West. Thirteen hand-hewn log cabins and one all-season glamping tent sleep a maximum of 44 guests total — meaning you'll never feel like you're sharing the place with a crowd. Everything is included: three meals a day, all alcohol (except the Reserve wine list), hot springs access, bikes, skis, ice skates, laundry, and Wi-Fi.

A cozy one-storey cabin with a proper bathtub — rarer than you'd think at Dunton. Wood-burning stove and mountain/meadow views. One of the pet-friendly options on property.
KingChristy's Tent
Dunton's only all-season glamping tent, constructed of cotton canvas and reclaimed 1830s materials. At 550 square feet it's not cramped — think gas stove, large shower with views of the Wilson Mountain Range, Aesop bath products, and Dyson fan with hot and cold settings. Comes with two mountain bikes.
KingChuck's
A large, multi-level family cabin at the end of town overlooking the West Fork of the Dolores River. King master suite upstairs, queen bedroom on main floor, two bunk-bed bedrooms in the daylight basement. The biggest standalone cabin option for groups short of Potter House.
Mixed (King, Queen, Bunk)Dolores
Sits right beside the Dolores River and has been beautifully restored from an original Dunton cabin. Features a Rajasthan wedding bed, large deck overlooking the river, and a gas stove. One of the more distinctive — and romantic — sleeping arrangements on property.
QueenDunton Store
The former general store of the original mining town. King bed on the main floor plus two queens in the loft, large full bathroom with tub, and a wood-burning stove. Has a private outdoor hot spring pool in summer. One of the pet-friendly cabins.

One of the most affordable entry points at Dunton. Cozy one-storey cabin close to the Source Pool with a queen bed and an unusual outdoor shower setup. In winter, guests use the steam shower in the nearby Bathhouse instead.
QueenForge
Named after the original blacksmith's forge. King bed, bathroom with shower. Clean and unfussy, with the same mountain-view windows as the other cabins.
KingGeysir
A straightforward, cozy cabin — king bed, bathroom with shower, mountain views. Named after Colorado's only geyser on the property grounds. Pet-friendly with prior approval.
KingMajor Ross
One of the oldest cabins on the property, built close to the original hot spring source. One-storey, sleeps two. Has a private outdoor shower near the source of the springs, plus a wood-burning stove. Direct view of the waterfall from every window.
KingNew House
King bedroom downstairs, large sleeping area in the loft with TV and DVD player, bathroom with shower, and a living room with a wood-burning fireplace. Solid choice for a couple who want a bit more space.
KingPotter House
The largest accommodation on property — a full house with 5 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, a kitchen, and a wrap-around deck. The master bedroom has a fireplace and en-suite tub. Two private trout ponds sit just outside, and the views of neighboring peaks are the best on property.
Mixed (King, Queen, Twin)Tipping
Two-storey cabin with three bedrooms — two kings and a twin room — plus two bathrooms and a living area. Good option for small families or a trio of travelers.

A two-storey cabin built from vertical cottonwood timbers — hence the name. Two king bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, plus two queen beds in the loft. One king can be reconfigured as a twin room or living space. Has a copper bathtub and views of town and the waterfall.
King (primary)Well House
Dunton's most coveted cabin, built around its own on-demand private hot spring pool and cold plunge. Open-plan, romantic layout with a wood-burning stove and mountain views. The only cabin where you don't have to share the springs with anyone.

Dunton's own Snow Cat takes guests up to 10,000 feet for a day of snowshoeing or cross-country skiing on trails laid out by former Olympic Nordic skier Wendy Wegner. Complimentary skis and snowshoes are available to borrow.

Five soaking options on property, ranging from 85°F to 106°F: inside the restored 19th-century Bathhouse (with floor-to-ceiling mountain views), under the stars at the original source, in the outdoor pool behind the Bathhouse, in the pool behind the Dunton Store cabin, and inside the private Well House cabin pool. The springs are calcium bicarbonate with dissolved iron, manganese, and lithium.
Guided experience on the Telluride Via Ferrata route. Also offers beginner-friendly trips for those who've never worn a harness.
Guided individual ($180) and couples ($240) yoga sessions blending physical asanas, pranayama, and breathwork. Often held outdoors in the alpine setting.
