Hot Springs
Old West ghost town meets serious luxury. Think antique cash registers, Butch Cassidy's initials carved into the saloon bar, bearskin rugs, and copper bathtubs — but paired with Susanne Kaufmann spa products, classically trained chefs, and heated slate floors. Rustic on the outside, genuinely pampering on the inside.
Book the Well House if budget allows — it's the only cabin with its own private hot spring pool and cold plunge, plus it has an open-plan layout that Mr & Mrs Smith editors call the most romantic on property.
Why It Matters
Dunton is a Relais & Châteaux member and Michelin 2-Key property. It's the only hotel in the world occupying a fully restored 19th-century mining ghost town with functioning geothermal hot springs. Colorado's only geyser bubbles up on the property every 45 minutes. The entire town can be bought out exclusively for weddings, retreats, and family gatherings.
Dunton Hot Springs is an authentic 1800s gold-and-silver mining ghost town in the remote San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado, painstakingly restored cabin by cabin into one of the most singular all-inclusive retreats in the American West. Thirteen hand-hewn log cabins and one all-season glamping tent sleep a maximum of 44 guests total — meaning you'll never feel like you're sharing the place with a crowd. Everything is included: three meals a day, all alcohol (except the Reserve wine list), hot springs access, bikes, skis, ice skates, laundry, and Wi-Fi.
