Why It Matters
One of Marrakech's most photographed riads — every corner has been executed with obsessive attention to detail. Chef Maria runs cooking classes on the rooftop, the hammam uses traditional black soap and argan oil, and the library operates on a bookcrossing model. It is tiny (6 suites), genuinely intimate, and run more like a private home than a hotel.
A 17th-century riad in the thick of Marrakech's Medina, Dar Darma opened as a boutique hotel in 2007 and has been steadily winning over people who came to Marrakech for something more than a vaguely oriental-looking hotel. Six colour-coded suites — Red, Blue, Orange, Mirrors, Brown Patio, Black Patio — are each wildly individual, all tadelakt walls, hand-painted wooden ceilings, antique carved portals and bold ceramics. The rooftop delivers 360-degree views of the Medina, Koutoubia Mosque and the Atlas Mountains, and the plunge pool up there is the main event in summer.

Near-identical in layout to the Brown Patio Suite — same ground-floor patio position, same two-separable-beds setup — but with black furniture and detailing instead of brown. A good option when a group books both patio suites together.

120 sqm of light blue and grey with a generous living space — sofa, armchairs, dining table, handcrafted pottery, antique portals and large paintings. Both bedrooms have canopy beds and poufs. Wide tadelakt bathtubs in both bathrooms. Overlooks a green patio. Can be divided into two separate suites, making it flexible for friend groups.

Brown Patio Suite
A play of contrasts: bright-toned walls and floors set against dark brown contemporary wood furniture with Moroccan decorative detailing. Ground floor, overlooking a shady patio. Two beds that can be separated, a living room and a bathroom with both shower and bathtub.

Mirrors Suite
65 sqm on the ground floor. The centrepiece is a ceiling-high wall of mirrors behind the bed. Brick red and violet colour palette, velvet armchairs in the living room, private seating area with a small table under a colonnade facing the main patio. Bathroom accessed via a carved wooden wall features bathtub and shower.

Spread across two floors, with the entrance and living room on the ground floor and a master bedroom (orange walls) reached via an indoor wooden staircase. Ensuite bathroom with shower and a terrace overlooking a patio with pool. Warm tones throughout.

Located on the first floor, it's 140 sqm of deep reds and golds, with a fireplace, broad glass walls, hand-painted wooden ceilings, antique carved portals and plaster vaults leading into two master bedrooms. Both bathrooms have tadelakt bathtubs and showers. There's reportedly a secret door somewhere. Sleeps up to 4.

Ends with a shared lunch on the terrace. A gift to take home is included. Kids are welcome.
A guide leads you through the labyrinthine souks around Djemaa El Fna, helping you find and negotiate on kaftans, Berber rugs, pottery, silverware, spices and Moroccan jewellery. Available on request, and also included as a complimentary add-on for guests booking the Christmas Shopping offer.
Guests can borrow a yoga mat from reception and use the rooftop terrace for sunrise yoga sessions. Complimentary and self-directed.
