Why It Matters
Part of the Scottish Dakota Hotels group founded by Ken McCulloch — the man behind Malmaison. The brand has a serious reputation for getting the fundamentals right: great beds, quality food, strong cocktails. No spa, no pool, no pretension. But the rooms are genuinely well-designed and The Grill has become one of the better steakhouses in Leeds.
Dakota Leeds sits on a pedestrianised stretch of Greek Street in Leeds city centre, four minutes from the train station. The dark, moody interiors are very much on-brand for the Dakota group — think matte blacks, leather, low lighting and not a single piece of bad art on the wall. It opened in 2017 and quickly became the business district's go-to hotel, with a grill restaurant and cocktail bar that locals treat as destinations in their own right.
