Bedfor Málaga
Maximalist and narrative-driven. Bold burgundies and garden greens, red-striped corridors, tented ceilings, curated antiques, embroidered fabrics, porcelain biznagas, vintage bathtubs, and stained-glass skylight over a restored central atrium. Think eccentric diplomat's mansion meets Andalusian townhouse. No pool, no gym, no spa — but an incredible sense of place.
Not all rooms have exterior windows — request a street-facing room for views, or a patio-facing room for quiet
Why It Matters
Brand-new property (June 2025) in a stunner of a 19th-century building. Marta de la Rica's interiors are genuinely unlike anything else in Málaga. The storytelling concept — down to the fictional backstory printed in rooms — sets it apart from every other boutique hotel in the city. It's also in the perfect spot: 5 minutes on foot to the Picasso Museum, the Carmen Thyssen, and Málaga Cathedral.
A 27-room boutique guest house opened in June 2025 inside a meticulously restored 1871 mansion on the corner of Calle Granada and Calle Méndez Núñez. The building was originally designed by Gerónimo Cuervo — the same architect behind Málaga's Teatro Cervantes — and spent years decaying before founder Cristina Lozano and interior designer Marta de la Rica transformed it into this. The entire place is built around a fictional character: Cristine Bedfor, the diplomat's daughter who grew up on a mythical floating island called Clementine. Each room, corridor, and corner of La Cocina de Cristine restaurant is a chapter of that invented story.
