Grand Hotel Astoria Brussels
Belle Époque grand dame meets creative Belgian salon. The architecture is aristocratic — vaulted ceilings, gilded accents, ornate mouldings — but the programming skews contemporary: Michelin-star chefs, a celebrity mixologist, a Sisley spa, and a concert series revived after 50 years.
The Palm Court has no reservation required — drop in for afternoon tea or a glass of wine even if you're not staying
Why It Matters
One of Brussels' most celebrated historic hotels, originally commissioned by King Leopold II in 1909 and host to Winston Churchill, Andy Warhol, and Salvador Dalí. After 17 years of closure, a €150m restoration by Corinthia has brought it back as a full-scale culinary and wellness destination, with two Michelin-starred chef partnerships and the city's only Sisley spa.
The Grand Hotel Astoria sat empty on Rue Royale for 17 years, its Beaux-Arts facade peeling, developers scared off by the cost. Then Corinthia spent €150 million and four years putting it back together. It reopened in December 2024 as arguably the most significant hotel launch in Brussels in decades. The Palm Court alone — with its reconstructed 11-metre stained-glass skylight and grand piano — is worth walking in off the street to see.
