Copperhill Mountain Lodge
Nordic mountain lodge meets serious architectural intent. Warm, woody, and art-filled rather than clinical or minimalist. Genuinely cozy atmosphere with a luxury underpinning — fire in the lobby, copper bar, furs on the walls. Both family-friendly and romantic depending on your room choice.
Request a room facing Åreskutan for the best mountain views — the 'Silver Deluxe' has panoramic views in three directions.
Why It Matters
Designed by Peter Bohlin (architect of numerous iconic Apple retail stores), it's the only design hotel in the Scandinavian mountain world. The Level Spa has been awarded best spa in Europe. The hotel's interiors were famously used as the French Alps resort in Ruben Östlund's film Force Majeure. Owned by Norwegian hotel magnate Petter A. Stordalen.
Copperhill Mountain Lodge sits at 730 meters above sea level on Förberget mountain in Åre — at the end of the road where the ski slopes begin. Designed by Peter Bohlin (of Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, the firm behind several Apple Stores), it opened in 2008 as the only design hotel in the Swedish mountain world. The building is almost entirely wood, with soaring spaces filled with rough-hewn stone, classic furs and textiles, and a significant art collection. It has 112 rooms, an award-winning spa, and a restaurant rooted in Sami food culture.
