Why It Matters
The estate's history traces to 1113, sits on the former Medici and later Strozzi hunting grounds, and is the largest agricultural estate in the Cerreto Guidi municipality. The 17th-century wine cellars are where the award-winning Occhio di Pernice Vin Santo ages for three years in an attic exposed to seasonal temperature swings. Landscape architect Marco Bay — who also designed Milan's Piazza Duomo green spaces — laid out the gardens.
A real working 250-hectare wine estate that happens to have 18 rooms. The Colle Alberti tenuta sits atop a hill in the Chianti DOCG zone outside Cerreto Guidi, producing Chianti, Vin Santo, olive oil, wheat, and sunflower seeds — and it has done so under the same family's stewardship since 1819. One brother is an architect (he designed the guest quarters), another is the winemaker. The interior is surprisingly contemporary: pale oak, clean lines, a soft natural palette set against original stone walls and brick arches. Opened as a guest property in August 2024.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Adjacent to the wine cellar, the estate's old oil mill (no longer operating) houses a private collection of historic agricultural tools: iron and wooden plows, a traditional olive mill, and rare farming objects from the past.
The estate sits at the start of a network of cycling routes through rolling hills, vineyards, and olive groves — including Tuscany's signature strade bianche (white gravel roads). Routes suit all levels. Bike hire available at the property. The areas around Vinci and Cerreto Guidi in the Chianti Montalbano zone are the main destinations.
Participate in the grape and olive harvests between September and December. Hands-on time in the vineyards and olive groves of the 250-hectare estate. The estate is the largest agricultural producer in the Cerreto Guidi municipality.
An unheated 15m pool open April through October, set slightly apart from the main house with views across vineyards and wheat fields. Landscaped by architect Marco Bay (Milan's Piazza Duomo) with holm oaks for shade and figs and cypress for scent. Sun loungers provided.
The hotel arranges private guided tours of the local area and further afield. Nearby destinations include Villa Medicea di Cerreto Guidi (3.5 km), the Museo Leonardiano in Vinci (10 km), and the cities of Florence, Pisa, Siena, and Lucca (all under an hour by car).
Guided tour of the 17th-century Strozzi-built cellars, covering the estate's winemaking history and process. Guests taste the estate's Chianti DOCG wines, including the flagship Occhio di Pernice Vin Santo — a hand-harvested wine oak-aged for three years in the vinsantaia attic where temperature swings intensify flavor. Tours also cover the seasonal grain and olive processes. The wine cellar is open Monday–Friday 9am–12pm and 3pm–5pm, Saturday 9am–12pm.
