Why It Matters
The only citizenM converted from a historic Amsterdam School building. Art in every room is curated by FOAM Editions, featuring works by Isabelle Wenzel, Sanja Marusic, and Lisette Appeldorn. The facade carries an eight-window artwork by Freudenthal Verhagen. A tucked-away courtyard with outdoor furniture is one of those details you won't read about until you stumble upon it.
citizenM Amstel Amsterdam sits inside a 1928 Amsterdam School-style former bank building in the historic canal ring, and it shows. The bones are grand — restored original doors, high ceilings — but the interior is pure citizenM: bold conceptual art, Vitra furniture, and a lobby that doubles as a co-working space, bar, and general hangout. Rooms are compact (88 of them across four upper floors), but the XL king bed and wall-to-wall window make them feel considered rather than cramped. It's the smallest citizenM in the portfolio key-wise, which gives it more of a boutique feel than the brand's bigger outposts.

On Property
How you'll actually spend your days.
The hotel's art collection is curated by Foam Editions, the gallery arm of FOAM Photography Museum in Amsterdam. In-room artworks are by Isabelle Wenzel, Sanja Marusic, and Lisette Appeldorn. The building facade carries an eight-window installation by Freudenthal Verhagen. Entrance and corridor art is by Pablo Lucker; living room art by Pinar & Viola. Essentially, the whole hotel is a walk-through gallery.
Complimentary bicycles are available for guests to explore Amsterdam canal-side. Ideal for reaching the Rijksmuseum, Vondelpark, and the Jordan neighborhood without relying on public transport.
A secluded enclosed courtyard accessible through double doors at the rear of the bar area. Furnished with outdoor seating surrounded by lush greenery — a quiet contrast to the busy city outside. Not widely promoted but worth seeking out.
Two boardroom-style meeting rooms seating up to 12 people each. Day meetings available from €320 (incl. VAT); evening meetings from €150 (incl. VAT). Breakout area adjacent. Free co-working in the living room is available to all guests; mycitizenM+ members also get free co-working.
