Chez Georges
Brazilian modernist / Brutalist villa. Design-forward, music-obsessed, intimate. Feels like staying in a collector's private home rather than a hotel. Staff speak English, French, and Portuguese.
The George Benson Master Suite at 49 sqm with its blue marble bathroom and Sugarloaf balcony view is the standout room — worth the splurge
Why It Matters
Listed as urban heritage of Rio de Janeiro. The only place in Brazil where you can sleep inside a Brutalist architectural landmark by Wladimir Alves de Souza, surrounded by a curated collection of Ricardo Fasanello furniture, with views of Sugarloaf Mountain from the pool. A fully wired professional recording studio sits beneath the pool, with audio patches running to every suite and common area. Featured in the New York Times, Le Monde, and the Michelin Guide.
A 1,000 sqm Brutalist villa perched above Santa Teresa — Rio's bohemian hilltop neighborhood that sits between the historic center and the beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema. Designed in 1974 by Wladimir Alves de Souza, a key architect of Brazilian modernism, the house was converted into a seven-suite guesthouse in 2017 by Pierre Bident Moldeva and Olivier Verwilghen, with interiors by Yorick Piette. Raw concrete arches, richly figured Brazilian hardwoods, Ricardo Fasanello vintage furniture, and textiles sourced from Thailand and Europe all coexist under one roof. And it works.

How you'll actually spend your days.
A dedicated rooftop viewing point gives unobstructed 360-degree views of Centro, Santa Teresa, Niterói, Guanabara Bay, Sugarloaf, and the Mata Atlântica forest. Sunrise and sunset are particularly good from here. Also wired to the recording studio.
The 1,000 sqm villa can be booked entirely for groups of up to 14 guests across all 7 suites. Ideal for music retreats, design trips, or family gatherings wanting a private Rio experience.
The entire villa can be booked for exclusive private events — weddings, corporate functions, fashion shoots, dinners, and cocktails. Interior spaces have sliding doors that connect fully to the exterior terraces. The property is listed as a filming and photo location.
A fully sound-proofed professional music studio sits beneath the 15-meter pool, consisting of a lounge area, control room, and recording room, all opening onto the rainforest. The entire villa is wired up with cable patches fitted in the walls of each suite, the living areas, and even the rooftop panoramic viewpoint. Guests can record in any room of the house.
The 15-meter pool sits above the jungle canopy with clear views of Sugarloaf. Features a counter-current swimming jet. The pool deck doubles as a yoga studio and social space. Hot tub (ofurô) also on property.
Yoga sessions available on the pool deck with Sugarloaf as the backdrop.
