A 18th-century château sitting on 28 hectares of woods and meadows outside Bourges, run as a hands-on B&B by artist-designer Jean-Luc Charpagne and his wife Maria. Five individually decorated rooms named after musical terms — Aria, Opéra, Symphonie, Prélude, Concerto — stretch between the original 18th-century longère wing with its period woodwork and a newer annexe with antique-style furnishings. The property sits on foundations that go back to a 10th-century fortified castle; remnants include a spiral staircase from 1160 and a Roman boundary stone in the woods.

Chambre Aria
The Aria sits in the original 18th-century longère wing and is defined by its period boiseries — original wooden wall panelling that gives the room a sober, intimate elegance. South-facing, so it gets the afternoon light. En-suite wet room with Italian walk-in shower, double basins, WC, heated towel rail, hairdryer, and toiletries.
KingChambre Concerto
Concerto is the château's most distinctive offering — a refined room with its own small private sitting area, south and north-facing. Views directly onto the château's main courtyard (cour d'honneur). Described as 'très raffinée', it sits in the contemporary-build annexe but is furnished with antique-style pieces and objets.
KingChambre Opéra
The most expensive room in the house at €260 a night. Opéra is described as luminous and refined, with a south and north dual exposure that makes it the brightest space. The bathroom is set up as a proper boudoir — a luxurious, self-contained experience. An optional extra sofa bed can convert to an additional sleeping space for €45.
KingChambre Prélude
The fifth room in the music-themed collection. Details on decor and pricing were not available from the official website at time of research, but it follows the same B&B format — king bed, private en-suite, breakfast included, WiFi.
KingChambre Symphonie
Symphonie mixes period and contemporary touches — the room description reads 'allying present and past, rhythmed by the seasons'. South-facing with a nostalgic en-suite bathroom. Can accommodate a third guest via a sofa bed for a €45 supplement.

Hosts provide advice on local visits. Bourges is 15 minutes by car with its UNESCO-listed Gothic cathedral and the Les Nuits Lumière summer light show. Sancerre vineyards are 35 minutes away; Menetou-Salon appellation is 12 minutes.
Maria's vegetable garden (potager) and rose garden are open for guests to explore. The produce goes directly into the table d'hôtes dinner.
