Chateau de Montcaud
Refined château elegance with a deliberately restrained, modern interior. The hotel's own tagline is 'the luxury of simplicity' — and they mean it. No fussy gilded excess, just quality materials, calm spaces, and serious food.
Le Cèdre de Montcaud only opens Wednesday–Saturday evenings: book well in advance, especially in summer
Why It Matters
One of the very few genuine château hotels in Provence — not a farmhouse dressed up, but a proper 19th-century castle. The hotel holds 2 Michelin Keys for accommodation and its gourmet restaurant Le Cèdre de Montcaud earned a Michelin star in 2024. Chef Matthieu Hervé runs both kitchens, the gourmet room serving blind-tasting menus of 5 or 7 courses.
A 19th-century silk trader's château sitting in 5 hectares of parkland between Avignon and Uzès. Built in 1848, fully renovated in 2018, and now a 5-star boutique hotel with a Michelin-starred restaurant. The interiors are deliberately spare — clean lines, natural tones, silk panels above every bed — a deliberate counterpoint to the grand 19th-century architecture outside.

Seasonal truffle farm visits arrangeable through the hotel, a quintessentially Provençal experience especially in winter/early spring.
