Why It Matters
One of France's most authentic château-hotels, not a conversion pastiche. Henry IV stayed here before being crowned king. The WWII Louvre connection gives the Scribe room its name. Chef Stéphane Andrieux has held a Michelin star continuously since 2001 — nearly 25 years in the same kitchen — with pastry chef Marc Jean alongside him since 1995. Cardinale

Duc
An entry-level Superior Room, smaller than the Deluxe and Prestige tiers but still individually decorated with the château's period furniture. A good option for solo travellers or couples prioritising the restaurant and estate over room size.
Gothique
A Junior Suite with Gothic architectural character, in keeping with the château's medieval origins. Decorated with period furniture and views towards the gardens or river.
Henri IV
Named after Henry of Navarre, who stayed at La Treyne before being crowned King Henry IV of France — the first of the Bourbon dynasty. Period furnishings in keeping with the château's historical character.
La Dordogne
One of three Master Suites, positioned to take full advantage of the château's cliff-edge setting above the Dordogne River. Individually decorated with period furniture in keeping with the château's French heritage style.
La Favorite
The flagship suite, set on the first floor with exceptional south-facing views over the Dordogne. Gothic woodwork adorns the entire ceiling — a striking room that turns gold each evening as the setting sun hits the large white bathroom. Louis XIV period furniture throughout.
La Prison Dorée
The third of the three Master Suites, with a name that reflects the château's layered history. Decorated in period style with the comfort and space of the top accommodation category.
La Tour
Set inside one of the château's towers, with exceptional views over the Dordogne. Tower rooms offer a genuine sense of inhabiting the medieval structure, with a circular or semi-circular feel and the river directly below.
Le Cèdre
Named after the ancient cedar trees that dominate the formal garden, this Junior Suite looks out over the château's grounds. The view from breakfast here — taken in the shade of century-old cedars — is one guests frequently mention.
Louis XIII
A 40 m² junior suite with a four-poster bed (1.60 m × 1.90 m), antique decoration in romantic style, and views over both the Dordogne and the formal French garden. The Jacuzzi bath and multi-jet shower make this one of the more indulgent rooms.

A 30 m² room with a four-poster bed set on Versailles parquet flooring, with views over the Dordogne. The name honours the room's place in history: during WWII, the Louvre stored its masterpieces here, including the famous 'Seated Scribe' of Egyptian antiquities.

Arguably the most unusual room in the house: set inside the château's original 14th-century Romanesque chapel, with a painted vaulted ceiling inherited directly from the chapel's ecclesiastical past. Exposed stone walls and a bird's-eye view down into the gardens.
Turenne
A spacious 35 m² room that comfortably fits two adults and two children, making it a solid family option. Named after the Viscount of Turenne, to whom the original castle belonged until 1540, with views over the Dordogne.

The COPEYRE Canoe Base is a short distance from the château; a bus picks guests up from the estate entrance. Descents can start from Creysse or Meyronne depending on the time available, with a picnic hamper prepared by the chef to take on the river. Allow at least two hours for a descent with swimming stops.
Hundreds of hectares of private forest and landscaped gardens to wander, including boxwood-lined paths, truffle oaks, and century-old trees. The formal French gardens were designed by landscape architect Edouard André.
Fishing is available on the Dordogne from the château's grounds and surrounding areas.
