Château Louise de La Vallière
Total historical immersion meets genuine luxury. Think museum-quality interiors, theatrical service, and serious gastronomy — all wrapped in a working Renaissance estate. Not for guests who want a minimalist spa hotel.

Why It Matters
Part of Relais & Châteaux since its 2022 opening, it is one of the most theatrically conceived château hotels in the Loire Valley. Every room is named for a different royal favorite or historical figure from the French court, and Jacques Garcia's interiors read more like period rooms in a palace than a standard luxury hotel. The candlelit gourmet dinner at L'Amphitryon — four courses following 17th-century protocol — is a genuine centrepiece experience.
A 16th-century Renaissance château built on the site of a 14th-century fortress, this was once the childhood home of Louise de La Vallière — the Sun King Louis XIV's first great love. Purchased in 2018 by Mira Grebenstein and Xavier Aubry, it reopened in October 2022 after an extensive restoration. Interior designer Jacques Garcia dressed all 20 rooms in period antiques, Cordova leather, tapestries, and haute couture fabrics; staff wear 17th-century costumes; and dinner is served with the formal pomp of a royal feast. It sits on a 20-hectare park with two-hundred-year-old trees, a fig conservatory, and a rose garden planted with varieties named after Louise herself.
