Château Le Nessay
Low-key coastal château: antique furniture meets soft pastels, rustic without being precious. The look is deliberately unfussy — think Breton holiday home that happens to have turrets and a panoramic bar terrace. Family-friendly, pet-friendly, and genuinely warm rather than stiff.
Book the Nessay Suite for the 40m² terrace and round turret bed facing the Ebihens archipelago — it is the only room with a private outdoor space
Why It Matters
The only SLH property in Brittany, sitting on a genuine peninsula with beaches on three sides. The Nessay Suite has a 40m² rooftop terrace and a round bed set inside a turret overlooking Ebihens island. Exclusive access to the 18-hole Dinard Golf Club — second oldest in France. Spa uses Phytomer products made in Saint-Malo from sea minerals. Over 90% of the 2018 restoration used local Breton craftsmen.
A 4-star château on its own peninsula on Brittany's Emerald Coast, flanked by two sandy beaches. The red-brick castle with turrets was built in 1882, fell into ruin after the war, and was revived in 2018 by entrepreneur Martin Bazin — who wanted it to feel like a beloved family home rather than a stuffy heritage hotel. Rooms spread across the main château, postern outbuildings, and two beachfront annexes — all 17 face the sea. The only Small Luxury Hotels of the World member in Brittany.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Two beaches flank the Nessay peninsula: Grande Salinette (large sandy beach) and Petite Salinette/Béchet beach. Both are within walking distance of the château and are the go-to for swimming, sunbathing, and watching the tides shift the landscape completely twice a day.
Le Nessay has an exclusive partnership with the Dinard Golf de Saint-Briac — one of the oldest courses in France, founded in 1887 and the second oldest in the country. The 18-hole links-style course sits above the rugged Breton coastline with 360-degree sea views. Sandy terrain, undulating fairways, small elevated greens, plenty of bunkers, and the ever-present Breton wind make it more challenging than it looks. The colonial-style clubhouse is a listed historic monument.
The GR34 — the famous Sentier des Douaniers (customs officers' path) that hugs the entire Breton coastline — runs directly through the Nessay peninsula. Walks in either direction open up views of the Emerald Coast's coves, cliffs, and beaches.
When the tides pull back on the Emerald Coast, the exposed rocks reveal shellfish, crabs, and sea life. It is a quintessential Breton pastime and the peninsula's tidal range makes it particularly good. The hotel Instagram is full of guests returning with buckets of coques (cockles).
La Maison du Nessay (the separate private house rental 2km from the château) has a private heated pool open June to September. Only available to guests who rent the entire Maison.
A weekly Sunday brunch at the restaurant includes fresh Cancale oysters as part of the spread. A proper Breton occasion — expect pastries, viennoiseries, the works.
