Why It Matters
One of the few working wine estates in the prestigious Pessac-Léognan appellation that also operates as a certified 5-star hotel. Once part of a 17th-century estate owned by Saint Jean's monks, Château Léognan has changed hands several times — shipowners, Bordeaux wine merchants — before becoming what it is today: a 5-star boutique hotel on a 173-acre (70-hectare) wine domaine in the Pessac-Léognan appellation. The 19th-century château and its chapel anchor the property, but the real surprise is the treehouses perched 3 metres up in a forested corner of the estate. Thirty minutes south of Bordeaux, yet feels like a different world entirely.

Set inside the château's towers — a charming quirk that gives the space a fairy-tale feel. Two bedrooms, a large terrace overlooking the gardens and an ancient sequoia, and a layout that works equally well for families (children aged 6+) or romantic couples.

A perched cabin 3 metres above the forest floor, overlooking the Château Léognan wine estate. Compact at 25 sqm but the setting is the whole point. Wraparound terrace in the vegetation, birdsong for an alarm clock, vineyard views. This is what makes the property genuinely unusual.
