Why It Matters

One of very few working French noble estates open to paying guests. The same family has owned it for over 1,000 years — since before William the Conqueror. Listed as a French Monument Historique and named one of the Seven Wonders of La Manche. Each of the 18 suites is themed around a specific historical figure connected to the family: Napoleon's Josephine, Alexis de Tocqueville (a family cousin), Louis XVI, Marie-Antoinette, and more.

A thousand-year-old working estate still owned by the Kergorlay family — Comte Denis de Kergorlay and his family live here. Sixteen to eighteen guest suites occupy a French Heritage Monument surrounded by 800 acres of Norman park, swan lakes, forests, and farmland. It's a family-run B&B at aristocratic scale: breakfast in a 16th-century dining room, dinners by candlelight in rooms hung with Flemish masters, and an English bar in the original castle cellars. No TVs anywhere. That's intentional.
