Château de Belet
Medieval-Renaissance castle meets contemporary luxury B&B. Owner-operated, intimate, house-party feel. Not a traditional hotel — closer to staying with very well-organized, welcoming friends who happen to own a 15th-century fortified manor.
Book dinner well in advance — the private chef experience is not a walk-in, and it is one of the highlights
Why It Matters
One of the most architecturally convincing castle experiences available to tourists in southwestern France. The 110-acre estate includes forest, orchards, and working farm. Listed on Michelin Guide, Tablet Hotels, and Sawday's. Recognized as a 2025 Serandipians Grand Hotel Champion. Birthplace of Alain de Solminihac, Blessed Bishop of Cahors, born here in 1593.
A 15th-century castle in the Dordogne that actually looks like a castle — twin circular towers, battlements, the works. American owners Don and Jennifer McDonalds bought it in 2019, gutted the interiors, and turned it into a five-room B&B with underfloor heating, Aesop bath products, and Apple TV. The rooms are named after French Impressionists. Breakfast uses produce from the on-site farm. Dinner requires advance planning but is genuinely worth it.

For 2–4 people, minimum 1 week advance notice required.
