Château Brachet
Belle Époque aristocratic manor with a contemporary eco-luxury edge. Each of the 15 rooms pays tribute to a historical figure or theme from the late 19th century — Carrara marble bathrooms, period furniture, and over 3,000 historical volumes in the library. The mood is intimate and unhurried.
Book the wellness area (sauna + hammam) before arrival — each guest gets one complimentary 45-minute slot per stay, by appointment only
Why It Matters
One of the very few five-star boutique properties in the Savoie Alps region, listed on both the Michelin Guide and Tablet Hotels. The property spent 10 years in eco-renovation using 50+ specialist craftsmen, and its backstory — royal guests, a physician to royalty, a forgotten château revived — gives it genuine historical depth rather than manufactured character.
Château Brachet is the restored 19th-century home of Dr. Léon Brachet — the 'Doctor of Kings' who treated Empress Sissi, Queen Victoria, and King George I of Greece. Owner Jean-Michel Belin bought the property in 2010 and spent a decade on an eco-renovation before opening in 2021. The result is a 15-room boutique château on six hectares of landscaped parkland, sitting between Lake Bourget and Annecy, about 45 minutes from Geneva.
