Century Old Town Prague
Literary heritage meets modern boutique. Dark tones, rich textures, Art Deco nods throughout. Lively enough for business travel, intimate enough for a romantic city break.
Book the Kafka Suite if budget allows — it's the most historically significant room in the building and recently refurbished
Why It Matters
One of the most historically specific hotel premises in Prague — Kafka didn't just visit, he worked here for 14 years. The Kafka Suite occupies what was effectively his former office space. The building also sits on the Michelin Guide's radar and is part of Historic Hotels Worldwide.
This is the building where Franz Kafka clocked in every morning from 1908 to 1922, working as an insurance clerk for the Workmen's Accident Insurance Institute. The neo-baroque facade — designed by architect Wertmüller in 1894, with architectural reliefs echoing the nearby State Opera — now fronts a 169-room MGallery hotel. Rooms are contemporary and lean compact, but the public spaces carry genuine character: high stucco ceilings, marble floors, a library stocked with Prague history books, and a courtyard restaurant where you can eat outside under glass.
