Casa Talia
Slow-living boutique retreat; architect-designed, Mediterranean-meets-North African aesthetic with stone walls, bamboo ceilings, terracotta and patterned tile floors. Organic, earthy, quietly design-forward without being precious about it.
Ask for the Meridiana suite — it has a romantic bedroom literally carved out of the cliff face on the lower level
Why It Matters
The name 'Talía' means 'Look!' in Sicilian dialect — and the view from the garden and pool alone justifies the visit. Every room is a named, individual restoration with its own personality. The property is listed with Tablet Hotels and has received Michelin Key selection. The owners are present and personally invested; this isn't a managed property, it's a life project.
Casa Talía is a cluster of individually restored stone houses in Modica's old Jewish quarter, built around a lush central garden — its whole design inspired by the open courtyard logic of a Moroccan riad. Milanese architects Marco Giunta and Viviana Haddad left city life to create this place, and that origin story shows in every hand-placed tile and salvaged beam. Eight named rooms and several independent holiday homes spill down a hillside above one of Sicily's finest UNESCO-listed Baroque skylines, with an intimate infinity pool balanced at the top offering direct views of the Duomo di San Giorgio.
