Casa Scaparone
Old-world Piedmontese farmhouse with an earthy, slow-food soul. Think rough stone walls, candlelit dinners, live accordion music, and a pool in the middle of a vineyard. No TV, no minibar. Bring a book.

Why It Matters
Listed in both the Michelin Guide and Tablet Hotels, Casa Scaparone is the only farm in Alba offering both lodging and a full restaurant. It sits on one of the oldest continuously inhabited hilltop sites in the city — the former Santamaria feudal estate — and has been restored with genuine care for the original architecture rather than a glossy renovation.
Casa Scaparone is a 500-year-old working farm perched on a hilltop just outside Alba — and not just any farm. It's the oldest farmhouse in the city, a former medieval feudal estate, and the only agriturismo in Alba that operates both a restaurant and a hotel. The property is a cluster of restored brick and stone buildings surrounded by 10 hectares of vineyards, hazelnut groves, orchards, and vegetable gardens, all farmed using biodynamic and organic methods. They produce around 8,000–9,000 bottles of wine annually, plus jams, preserves, flour, and pasta — much of which ends up on your dinner plate.

On Property
How you'll actually spend your days.
Trekking bikes available for rental on request. Alba is about a 10-minute ride downhill; the return trip is predictably harder. Good base for exploring Langhe wine roads by bike.
Organized trekking excursions through the Langhe and Roero hills directly from the property. The farm's hilltop position makes for good walking country, with vineyard and orchard trails on site as well.
The property is a working farm — guests and their children can explore the greenhouses, woodworking workshop, meadows, and farm animals freely. No organized tour needed.
Guided day tours of the surrounding Langhe and Roero wine country — wine tastings, grappa producers, and local food stops. Previous guests mention tours with a guide named Giancarlo as a highlight of the stay.
Regular live folk music events in the osteria and courtyard — often featuring traditional Piedmontese instruments including the piano accordion. The owners are known to join in. Not every night, but a genuine part of the atmosphere.
The property can organize picnics in the surrounding fields and orchards for guests who want to eat outside the formal restaurant setting.
Small outdoor pool surrounded by the property's vineyard, with views over the Langhe hills. A genuine highlight in summer. Water can be on the cooler side. Quieter midweek; the restaurant draws more visitors on weekends.
Popular venue for small weddings, communions, and private events. The courtyard and restored buildings provide the setting; the kitchen handles the catering. Run with a hands-on approach by the family.
The farm produces around 8,000–9,000 bottles of wine annually using natural and biodynamic methods. Guests can taste and purchase house wine, plus jams, preserves, flour, and pasta from the on-site farm shop.
