Casa Palopo
Colorful Guatemalan heritage meets contemporary luxury. Stucco walls painted in Moroccan blue, terracotta, and lavender. Exposed wooden beams. Original Botero painting in the sala. Artisanal everywhere, but never rustic — this place has real design intention.

Why It Matters
Guatemala's first and only Relais & Châteaux property. Recipient of Michelin Keys. The location — perched on a cliff face above one of the world's most dramatic lakes — is genuinely hard to match. Two distinct restaurants, a newly launched spa called Saq'Ya', and a private three-bedroom villa with its own infinity pool make it the most complete luxury offering on Lake Atitlán by a considerable margin.
Casa Palopó sits on a steep hillside above Lake Atitlán, Guatemala's deepest lake, with uninterrupted views of three volcanoes — Tolimán, Atitlán, and San Pedro. Originally a private family home converted to a hotel in 2000, it became Guatemala's first Relais & Châteaux property. Fifteen individually designed rooms and suites layer bold stucco colors, handwoven textiles, local antiques, and indigenous Guatemalan artwork against a backdrop that frankly stops people mid-sentence.
