Casa Laguna Hotel & Spa is a 23-room adults-only boutique inn sitting on a hillside directly above Pacific Coast Highway, with the Pacific Ocean on the other side of the road. Built in the early 1920s in Spanish colonial style, the property was completely redesigned in 2016 by celebrity designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard — think hand-painted Moorish tiles, bold Catalina ceramics, custom fabric prints, and ceiling decorations in rich blues, burgundy, and terra cotta. Part of the Common Thread Hotels collection, it operates somewhere between a proper hotel and a particularly stylish B&B: only 23 rooms, a heated pool that overlooks the ocean, a small spa, and a complimentary breakfast that guests consistently rave about.

Decorated in soft blues that mirror the ocean just across PCH, these 250 sq ft rooms sit on the upper levels for better sightlines. Same Martyn Lawrence Bullard fabric treatment as the Garden Rooms, but with the payoff of actual Pacific views from your bed. Ensuite has hand-painted Moroccan tiles and a walk-in shower.
Queen
Deluxe Ocean View with Patio
Same footprint and palette as the Deluxe Ocean View, but with a private patio that opens directly into the hotel gardens — views of Santa Catalina Island and the Pacific beyond. Bright yellow and mint-green Bullard fabrics, dark wood furnishings, hand-painted Moroccan tile bathroom with walk-in shower.
QueenGarden Room
The entry-level rooms at Casa Laguna, and honestly still pretty charming. Dark wood furnishings are offset by bright yellow and mint-green fabrics designed by Martyn Lawrence Bullard. Ensuite bathroom has hand-painted Moroccan tiles and a walk-in shower. On the smaller side — 225 sq ft — so manage expectations if you're packing heavy.
QueenJunior Suite
A proper step up in space and amenities. These 350 sq ft ocean-facing suites have king beds dressed in Bullard fabrics, a large living area with leather armchairs and a 50-inch HD TV, a dining area, and a private balcony with outdoor seating for two. Hand-painted Spanish tiles in the ensuite with a walk-in shower.
KingOne Bedroom Suite Garden View
Identical layout and 400 sq ft footprint as the Ocean View Suite but with balcony views over the hotel's lush gardens rather than the Pacific. Same rich burgundy and red Moroccan-Spanish interiors, fireplace, dining area, king bed, and walk-in shower. Some units include a claw-foot bathtub.
KingOne Bedroom Suite Ocean View
Spacious 400 sq ft suite with Spanish and Moroccan-inspired interiors in rich burgundy and bold red — a warmer, more dramatic palette than the standard rooms. King bed, fireplace, living area with bespoke furnishings, dining area for two, and a private balcony overlooking the Pacific. Some units have a freestanding claw-foot bathtub in addition to the walk-in shower.
KingThe Bungalow
The best room at Casa Laguna, and it's not especially close. Set in its own secluded section of the gardens and entirely separate from the main hotel building, this 700 sq ft villa-style suite was originally built circa 1931. Full Martyn Lawrence Bullard treatment throughout: colorful fabrics and wallpapers, gas-fireplace living room, well-equipped kitchenette, and a large king bedroom. Both the living room and the Jacuzzi bathtub have direct ocean views. There's a dual rain-head steam shower in the ensuite, and a hammock on the private balcony for taking in the whole bay.
