Casa Japa
Colonial grandeur meets spare contemporary design. Eclectic without being fussy. The bones are 300 years old; the furniture is considered and modern. Feels more private home than hotel — because it is.

Why It Matters
One of the very few properties in Campeche's UNESCO-protected walled city to achieve a Michelin Guide listing. Opened only in 2023 after a meticulous two-year restoration. Featured in Bloomberg as one of Mexico's most underrated destinations. The only way to stay is to book the entire house.
Three centuries ago this was a parish house for the church next door. A couple tracing their family tree through Campeche's colonial streets found it in 2021, fell hard for it, and spent two years bringing it back to life. Architect José Manuel Martínez led the restoration with enough care that the 18th-century double arcade, original timber beams, tiled floors, and wrought-iron fences all survived. The result: four en-suite bedrooms with whitewashed walls, black-framed beds, and bold monochrome floors, wrapped around a stone-columned central courtyard. Up top, a rooftop pool overlooks the UNESCO-listed fortified city walls and the Gulf of Mexico beyond. You rent the whole house — all four bedrooms, all 10-guest capacity — not individual rooms.

On Property
How you'll actually spend your days.
The property coordinates arrival and departure airport transfers on request.
The hosts coordinate tours around Campeche and its surrounding Mayan archaeological sites and haciendas. Calakmul, the walled city, and nearby cenotes are all reachable. Arrangements made through the property.
Staff will purchase a guest-specified grocery list prior to arrival — useful for stocking the fully equipped kitchen for a longer stay.
The 76 sq m rooftop holds up to 60 people for weddings, creative retreats, private dinners, or cultural events. The owners provide event planner service and can arrange private tastings. The courtyard and living spaces add further venue flexibility.
The rooftop pool is the social heart of the house when the sun goes down. Small plunge-style pool with a lounge for sunbathing and sunset views over the city's fortified walls to the Gulf of Mexico.
