Why It Matters
Designed by Piero Lissoni, one of Italy's most celebrated architects. The Fantini family literally makes the bathroom fittings — every shower, tap and sink is a showcase piece. No other hotel on Lake Orta comes close for design pedigree, and the whole place can be rented exclusively. A 5-star boutique hotel on the western shore of Lake Orta, opened in 2017 by Daniela Fantini — CEO of the Fantini Rubinetterie tap-making dynasty. The entire property was designed by Milanese architect Piero Lissoni, who merged a 19th-century stone villa with a crisp contemporary extension using oak, glass, and local stone. Eleven rooms, all facing San Giulio Island, and a philosophy built around 'Lake Time': the idea that the clock stops the moment you arrive. It's quieter and less touristy than Como or Maggiore — which is exactly the point.

Four rooms on the second floor of the contemporary Lissoni-designed building. Each has a small sitting area with sofa and armchair — enough to feel like a proper suite without the suite price. Large windows amplify the lake view. Bathrooms feature Fantini mixers and an Effegibi Turkish bath built into the shower, with full chromotherapy. Balcony rather than terrace.

Two suites occupying the first and second floors of the original 19th-century building. Large and airy, with stone walls, wood details, and blue glass elements that reflect the lake's colors at sunset. The bathrooms are spacious enough to be private spas in their own right — complete with Turkish bath inside the shower, Fantini taps, and chromotherapy lighting. Suites also come with a bathtub, which the other room categories do not.

Five rooms on the first floor of the new building. The smallest category at 20 sq m but each comes with a furnished private terrace — arguably the best outdoor space in the hotel for morning coffee. Floor-to-ceiling windows and natural materials keep them feeling open despite the compact footprint. Bathrooms have Turkish bath and chromotherapy in the shower. No bathtub.
