Cannery Pier Hotel & Spa
Pacific Northwest heritage meets boutique luxury. Industrial cannery bones — exposed steel beams, wooden trusses, brick-red cladding — dressed up with Pendleton throws, clawfoot tubs, and curated Oregon wines. Cozy and specific to its place.
Ask for a ship schedule at check-in — river traffic is surprisingly entertaining and runs around the clock
Why It Matters
One of the few hotels in the Pacific Northwest built directly on an active river pier — every single room faces the water with an unobstructed river view. Voted #4 Best Hotel in the Pacific Northwest by Condé Nast Traveler readers. No resort fee. Complimentary hot breakfast with made-to-order omelets. Nightly chauffeur service in a fleet of vintage 1930s–40s cars.
The hotel sits on a real working pier, 600 feet out over the Columbia River. Built in 2005 on the pilings of a former salmon cannery, the brick-red exterior nods to its industrial past — but inside, floor-to-ceiling windows maximize the water. All 46 rooms face the river, each with a private balcony, binoculars, and a ship schedule so you can clock the container vessels and pilot boats passing under the Astoria-Megler Bridge. There is no resort fee, a proper hot breakfast is included every morning, and a nightly vintage car ferries guests into downtown Astoria.
