The hotel sits on a real working pier, 600 feet out over the Columbia River. Built in 2005 on the pilings of a former salmon cannery, the brick-red exterior nods to its industrial past — but inside, floor-to-ceiling windows maximize the water. All 46 rooms face the river, each with a private balcony, binoculars, and a ship schedule so you can clock the container vessels and pilot boats passing under the Astoria-Megler Bridge. There is no resort fee, a proper hot breakfast is included every morning, and a nightly vintage car ferries guests into downtown Astoria.

The standard entry point, and there is nothing standard about the view. At around 375 sq ft, these rooms are compact but well-used: a clawfoot tub faces the river through an open window, a rain shower system, private toilet, standing balcony, and a window seat stocked with a Pendleton blanket. Gas fireplace rounds it out.

Double Queen Deluxe
Same footprint and river-facing setup as the Deluxe King, but with two queen beds — the better pick for friends traveling together or families. Clawfoot tub, rain shower, standing balcony, and all the same complimentary extras.

A proper suite at 450 sq ft, with a separate king sleeping room and a living area featuring hardwood floors, a leather sofa, and a custom Cannery Pier side table. The upgrade that matters most: a jetted tub (instead of a clawfoot) with a full view of the river and bridge. Better for longer stays.

Pilot House (Penthouse)
The top of the pier, literally. At around 800 sq ft, the Pilot House has two separated king bedrooms, two bathrooms (the master with jetted tub and river/bridge views plus rain shower, the second with rain shower only), a full kitchen with cookware and dinnerware, and two private balconies. Access requires an elevator to the 4th floor plus a short stair climb. Comes with a $50 daily Cannery Cheers Credit instead of the standard $25. No pets allowed here.

Every evening, the hotel dispatches a vintage car to shuttle guests to downtown Astoria restaurants and back. The fleet includes a 1939 Buick, a 1938 Packard, and a 1945 Cadillac. Entirely complimentary. Book through the front desk — it fills up on weekends.
Every room is stocked with binoculars and a printed ship schedule showing expected river traffic — container ships, pilot boats, tugs, the occasional sea lion. Genuinely one of the best free activities at the hotel.
