Why It Matters
One of the Costa Brava's most serious eco-wellness properties — not in spite of its inland location but because of it. It's a 300-year-old noble house restored with genuine sustainable credentials, a private caldarium, and hosts (Alfred and Lourdes) who personally know what you should eat for breakfast based on what you're doing that day.
Can Mascort sits in a 17th-century former apothecary and pharmacy in the pedestrian heart of Palafrugell — about 4km inland from the Costa Brava's best coves. Owners Alfred and Lourdes gutted and rebuilt it to bioconstruction standards: clay walls, graphite paint that absorbs toxins, low-radiation WiFi modems, CO2 sensors in every room, and not a drop of greenwashing in sight. The 15 rooms are quiet, characterful, and deliberately TV-free. The star of the show is a private caldarium under stone vaulted ceilings with chlorine-free water held at exactly body temperature (36°C).

Junior Suite
Five rooms — the most spacious in the hotel. First floor: Mercè (restored yellow hydraulic tile floors, vaulted ceilings, semicircular arches, windows onto Carrer de l'Arc); Arc (bright and airy with vaulted ceilings, original hydraulic tile borders, bathroom perched over the Carrer de l'Arc bridge with one of the best views in the building); Botines (high-beamed ceilings, two exterior balconies — one onto Calle Botines, one onto Calle de la Font). Second floor: Cap Roig (hidden behind six steps, sloping beamed ceilings, reclaimed antique floors, skylit bathroom); Santa Margarida (the large loft of the house, sloping beamed ceilings, very bright, ideal for families). Four of the five Junior Suite rooms (Arc, Botines, Cap Roig, Santa Margarida) can accommodate extra beds for families.

Standard Double Room
Five rooms in this category: Empordanet, Garoines, Calella, Llafranc, and Sant Sebastià. Each has an exterior window looking onto the historic centre. Empordanet is on the first floor and accessible for guests with limited mobility; its windows face Carrer de l'Arc. Garoines has high beamed ceilings and a balcony over Calle Botines. Calella is compact and cosy with high beamed ceilings. These are the smallest rooms in the hotel — good for solo travellers or couples who plan to spend their time out and about.

Superior Double Room
Five rooms: Garbí, Havaneres, Tamariu, Ermedàs, and Llofriu. Each has something extra from the original construction — a piece of original staircase forming a cosy nook (Ermedàs), sloping beamed attic ceilings, or exposed stone work. Llofriu is a small loft with a window on Raval Street and a skylit bathroom. Havaneres and Garoines (a Standard) sit adjacent and can be connected via an exterior door for families.

Staff actively recommend and help organise local experiences: the morning farmers' market (minutes away), the Museu del Suro (Cork Museum, 450m), the Josep Pla Foundation, coastal path hikes, and restaurant reservations at spots like Llevantaps gastro bar.
