Cameron Highlands Resort
British colonial country house meets highland tea estate. Stone fireplaces, a resident pianist in the bar, a reading room with leather chairs. Formal enough for a dress code at dinner, relaxed enough for a solo walk on the jungle trail.
Ask for a room on the upper floor — balconies are reportedly larger than the junior suite balconies
Why It Matters
Michelin Guide-selected as one of the World's Most Exciting Hotels. Named for British explorer William Cameron, this resort channels the full romance of colonial Malaya—complete with a mystery trail following the last known steps of silk legend Jim Thompson. The Spa Village, rated among TripAdvisor's World's Top 26 Spas, grounds its treatments in Orang Asli healing traditions and tea-based therapies unique to the region.
Cameron Highlands Resort sits 1,500 metres above sea level in a grand colonial building, framed by tea plantations and rolling hills that couldn't feel further from the Malaysia most visitors imagine. This is cool-weather Malaysia: sweater weather, stone fireplaces, and afternoon tea on a misty afternoon. The resort fronts the only 18-hole golf course in the highlands, and every room looks out over it. Think four-poster beds, polished teak floors, and silk fabrics made famous by Jim Thompson—the American silk entrepreneur who mysteriously vanished here in 1967 and whose name graces one of the resort's signature suites. No pool, and the spa costs extra (though the Spa Suite category includes a daily 50-minute treatment). What you do get: one of Malaysia's most genuinely distinctive hotel experiences.

How you'll actually spend your days.
A multi-part experience combining a dawn farm visit with regenerative farmer Fong, a tea infusion bath at Spa Village, and a chef-guided cooking class at Gonbei using the morning's harvested produce. One of the resort's signature 'Treasured Moments' experiences.
Daily afternoon tea service at the Jim Thompson Tea Room. House-made scones, clotted cream, Cameronian strawberry jam slow-cooked 10 hours, finger sandwiches, savoury quiches, pastries, and the highlands' own fine teas. The most traditionally British experience in Malaysia.
Bespoke Western four-course dinner in the resort's private garden gazebo, exclusively for one couple per evening. Moves to the Jim Thompson Tea Room fireplace if the weather turns. Advance reservation essential.
Weekly signature dining event in The Dining Room: slow-roasted meats, Yorkshire pudding, seasonal accompaniments, and a quintessential British dessert. Served on Saturdays.
Artfully prepared picnic served amidst the tea plantation terraces. Available daily except Mondays, subject to availability and weather. Advance reservations essential.
18-hole, par 71 golf course immediately adjacent to the resort. 6,101 metres long, winding through highland vantage points and valleys at elevation. The cool mountain air and misty mornings make for an unusually refreshing round. The only golf course in the Cameron Highlands.
A guided jungle walk following the last known footsteps of Jim Thompson — the American businessman who revived Thai silk and mysteriously vanished in Cameron Highlands in 1967. Blends forest trekking with storytelling about one of Southeast Asia's greatest unsolved disappearances. One of the most memorable experiences on property. Arrange through concierge.
Guided or self-guided walks on secluded forest paths through the highlands' jungle ecosystem. Ancient trees, ferns, hornbills, and mouse deer can appear. The resort can arrange custom guided treks tailored to pace and interest, from botanical-focused to wildlife observation.
A gentle self-paced walking route through working farms and curated gardens near the resort. Designed for quiet contemplation, not athletic exertion. No schedule, no guide required.
Full-sized snooker table in the Highlands Bar, available to guests as a convivial evening diversion alongside whiskies and piano music.
