Why It Matters
Michelin Guide listed and part of the Tablet Hotels collection. It predates the famous Borscht Belt boom by two decades, making it one of the region's longest-running resorts. The current owners reopened it in June 2021 with renovated rooms, new amenities, and Executive Chef Jean Paul Medina (formerly of The DeBruce and North Branch Inn) leading the kitchen.
One of the oldest continuously operating resorts in the Catskills, Callicoon Hills traces its roots to a boarding house built in 1905, which the Hill family converted into a full resort by the 1940s. Today, it sits on 23 acres in Callicoon Center, Sullivan County — about two hours from NYC — with 65 rooms spread across five distinct building types, an oversized outdoor pool, Scandinavian saunas, A-frame glamping cabins, and the Conover Club restaurant. The vibe is genuinely relaxed: no TVs in most rooms, nightly s'mores by the bonfire, and a slogan — 'a friendly place for nice people' — that's held since the '40s.
