Círculo Mexicano
Minimalist-Mexican. Shaker meets Oaxacan craft. Residential and calm on the inside, with the most historically loaded street corner in the country just outside the door. The ground floor runs as a modern marketplace with boutiques and food — it draws a local creative crowd, not just hotel guests.

Why It Matters
The building is the birthplace of Manuel Álvarez Bravo — Mexico's most celebrated photographer — and Grupo Habita partnered with the Álvarez Bravo Foundation to display his works throughout. Listed on the 2021 Condé Nast Traveler Hot List. A member of Design Hotels and bookable through Marriott Bonvoy. Only 25 rooms, with 18 having private skylit patios.
Grupo Habita took a beat-up 19th-century vecindad at one of Mexico City's most charged addresses — the building where photographer Manuel Álvarez Bravo was born and made some of his most iconic images — and turned it into a 25-room boutique hotel that feels more like a sophisticated private residence than a commercial operation. Architects Ambrosi | Etchegaray kept the bones (the zigzag staircase, the central patio, the raw brick) and filled the rooms with Shaker-inspired ash wood furniture from La Metropolitana and handwoven Oaxacan textiles. The rooftop — a Grupo Habita signature move — is where the place really comes alive: a small pool, a hot tub, a sauna, and Comedor Mexicano cooking seasonal Mexican food on an open comal, all with front-row views of the Metropolitan Cathedral, the National Palace, and the Templo Mayor.

The hotel sits at Guatemala 20, the birthplace of Mexico's most celebrated photographer Manuel Álvarez Bravo (1902–2002). In partnership with the Manuel Álvarez Bravo Foundation, Grupo Habita displays a curated selection of his works throughout the hotel rooms and public areas, including the iconic El ensueño (The Day Dream, 1931), which was photographed at this exact address.
The rooftop can be booked for private events — cocktail parties, business dinners, brunches, and group get-togethers. All food and drink is handled in-house by the culinary team.
