Why It Matters
One Michelin Key, GaultMillau 16 points, and the Vinum Gold Award for Switzerland's best wine list — a lot of recognition for a 28-room hotel in an alpine village. The outdoor whirlpool heated to 37°C year-round with a direct Eiger North Face view is the signature detail that people talk about. The wine cellar holds over 600 labels.
The Glacier opened in 1864 near the foot of an alpine glacier — back when ice was harvested by horse and carriage and hauled down to Interlaken. The glacier has retreated dramatically since then, but the hotel has only gotten better. After a complete renovation in 2018, it now runs as a 4-star superior boutique property with 28 rooms and suites, a GaultMillau 16-point restaurant, and a wine list that won the Vinum Swiss Wine List Award gold medal two years running. It holds a Michelin Key. Owners Justine and Jan Pyott run the place with real conviction — sustainability certifications, COCO-MAT® natural mattresses throughout, and a kitchen that works closely with regional Alpine producers.

The hotel team can advise on routes from short village walks to full Eiger-facing day hikes. The hotel's location at the quieter end of Grindelwald puts you close to several trailheads.
