Why It Matters
Opened in 2014, Hotel Navis was designed by acclaimed Croatian architect Idis Turato in partnership with the Kapetanović family — local hoteliers whose surname literally means 'captain.' The building is integrated directly into the cliff, with every single room guaranteed a sea view. The restaurant is a JRE member and draws serious food travelers on its own. It's also a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World.
Hotel Navis sits on the rocky cliffs of Preluk Bay, right where Opatija meets Rijeka — close to the Istrian peninsula but with open Kvarner Bay views stretching to the islands of Cres and Krk. All 44 rooms face the sea. The building's architecture follows the contours of the cliff face, giving it the silhouette of a dark cruise ship with alternating black-and-white balconies. Inside, you get dark grey concrete walls, mauve and purple tones, Croatian-made Prostoria furniture, custom lighting, and floor-to-ceiling glass that makes the sea feel like part of the room. The restaurant holds a JRE (Jeunes Restaurateurs d'Europe) membership, so the food here is taken very seriously.

Four more square metres than the Superior, and it shows. The balcony is wider, the panoramic sea view the same. The design language is identical — dark concrete walls, warm tones, Croatian designer furniture — but there's more breathing room.

The entry-level room, and at 27 m² it's compact but the huge floor-to-ceiling glass wall makes it feel larger than it is. Natural materials and designer Prostoria furniture. Every room opens onto a private balcony facing the sea.

Bikes available for guests. The Lungomare coastal promenade (12 km from Volosko to Lovran through Opatija) makes for an excellent flat ride. Mount Učka trails are more challenging.
