& Spa
Post-luxury eco-resort. Deep Brazilian identity — architecture, cuisine, spa rituals, even the water (from the hotel's own spring). Sparse on guests, heavy on nature. Think fireplaces, birdsong, forest trails, and a carefully curated wine cellar.
Book the Panorama Suite for the best Mantiqueira Valley views from the main building — only 3 in this category.
Why It Matters
One of Brazil's few properties in Relais & Châteaux, and the country's most compelling example of a fully homegrown luxury resort. No European imports, no global brand templates — everything from the floatation spa to the restaurant menu is rooted in Brazilian culture and the Atlantic Forest ecosystem.
Botanique opened in 2012 on a 1.2-million-square-meter private reserve in the Serra da Mantiqueira mountains — and it took nearly a decade to build. That timeline makes sense once you're standing inside. Every centimeter is deliberately Brazilian: local craftsmen used jacaranda wood, chocolate slate, native stone, and timber, while art and furnishings came from more than a hundred Brazilian designers. The hotel calls this philosophy 'post-luxury,' and the label sticks. Six suites in the glass-fronted main lodge plus eleven villas scattered across the forested hillside keep the guest count intimate. The cliffside restaurant feels like a treehouse. The spa draws on Afro-Brazilian and indigenous traditions. And the soundtrack in the common areas is vintage Brazilian vinyl.
