Why It Matters
One of only a handful of Devon hotels with an active Michelin Star. Gaia Spa won Hotel Spa of the Year for Western Europe & Scandinavia at the World Spa & Wellness Awards 2019 and has received AA Best UK Spa recognition. The building itself dates back to the Domesday Book — name comes from the Saxon 'Burth-Y-Don', meaning 'enchanted place on the hill.'
A Grade I-listed Elizabethan manor house on a hilltop in Devon, Boringdon Hall has been through the hands of Henry VIII, a Duke, and Sir Francis Drake's inner circle — now it's a serious five-star spa hotel with a Michelin-starred restaurant. The 55 rooms split between the atmospheric original manor and a purpose-built wellness wing, so you can either go full stone-fireplace-and-four-poster or opt for the sleek, spa-adjacent Wellness Rooms and Suites. Gaia Spa is the headline act: an adults-only facility with two infinity pools, Finnish sauna, crystal salt steam room, and 12 treatment rooms, all set within the estate grounds.

Courtyard Rooms
In the newest wing, these are designed for space, comfort, and practicality — well-refined and pared back. The dog-friendly rooms in the hotel: selected Courtyard Rooms accept dogs with bowls and treats provided, for a small supplement.
Executive Suite
Spacious bedroom with a separate lounge and its own private terrace with a heated Jacuzzi. Solid choice if you want outdoor soaking space without going full Royal Suite. Good for longer stays.
Heritage Rooms
These are the rooms in the main historic manor house, meticulously restored to showcase the building's actual history. Exquisite antique furniture, magnificent stone fireplaces, rich furnishings, and four-poster beds with carved wooden headboards. This is the Boringdon you came for if history is the draw.
Lady Jane Suite
Set over two levels, this is one of the grandest ways to experience the manor house proper. Named after Lady Jane Grey — whose father Henry Grey, Duke of Suffolk, briefly owned Boringdon in 1549. Elegant proportions throughout.
Royal Suite
The most theatrical room in the house. A private terrace with a heated rooftop Jacuzzi where you can sit beneath the stars with a glass of champagne. Boringdon describes it as quite possibly the only such setup in the UK. It's the kind of room you book when you want the full manor house fantasy.
Saltram Suite
Rich in historic character but given a contemporary polish — named after Saltram House, the nearby National Trust estate once owned by the Parker family who also owned Boringdon. Good mix of period detail and modern comfort.
Stable Rooms
The entry-level option, situated in the courtyard wing. Compact but well-appointed — one TripAdvisor guest called their Stable Room 'absolutely lovely... small but well-appointed and clean.' The most affordable way to access everything Boringdon offers.
Wellness Rooms
In the newer wellness wing, these are the modern counterpart to the Heritage Rooms. Naturally styled with a calming palette, positioned for easy spa access. Good value entry point into the wellness wing if you don't need suite-level space.
Wellness Suites
In the hotel's newest wing, these suites are naturally styled with a calm, nature-inspired palette. Closest rooms to Gaia Spa in the building, so you can practically roll out of bed into a treatment. Some include private outdoor hot tubs — ideal for a romantic Devon escape.
