Borgo Santo Pietro
Antique-luxe agri-estate. Think 13th-century monastery DNA meets high-functioning organic farm. Zero trendy minimalism here — the interiors lean into velvet drapes, chandeliers, and four-poster beds. But the estate is entirely alive: alpacas, sheep, beehives, vineyards, and a cheesemaker on staff. The vibe is old-money Tuscan with deeply earnest farm-to-plate credentials.
Book the pool houses (Dina Ferri, Casa Gerda, La Casa dei Fiori Bianchi) if absolute privacy is the priority — they are estate villas with their own private plunge pools.
Why It Matters
Received Three Michelin Keys in 2025 — the Guide's top hotel distinction. Its Saporium restaurant holds both a Michelin Red Star and Green Star simultaneously. Named in Fodor's Finest Hotels Awards 2025, Tatler's 101 Best Hotels in the World 2025, and ranked #19 Italy and #14 Europe in Condé Nast Traveler's 2025 Readers' Choice Awards. The in-house Seed to Skin spa won World Spa Awards 2024 World's Best Country House Hotel Spa. Founders Jeanette and Claus Thottrup (Danish) also run an organic skincare line and a custom luxury sailing yacht.
Borgo Santo Pietro is a 5-star boutique hotel built around a 13th-century Tuscan villa that once served as a healing stopover for medieval pilgrims. It sits on a 300-acre organically cultivated estate — complete with working farm, dairy, vineyard, herb gardens, and a Michelin-starred restaurant — about 40km outside Siena. The 22 rooms and suites are each individually designed with hand-painted frescoes, antique pieces, bespoke beds, and fireplaces. Worn leather armchairs by open fires, a brick wine cellar stocked with 1,500 labels, and fresh flowers cut from the gardens every morning set the tone. This is a proper countryside immersion, not a hotel with a garden.
